*Opening Night - October 14, 2007 4:00 pm - Tilden Piano Trio - Sarn Oliver, violin, Peter Wyrick, cello, June Choi Oh, piano

This opening concert will take us from the beginning of the Romantic era with a Beethoven trio, to its culmination with Arensky and Ravel. The performers will cap it all off with a new piece written for the trio by the violinist, Sarn Oliver.



Sunday, November 4, 2007 4:00 PM - Emerging Artists Concert - Afiara String Quartet
Valerie Li, Yuri Cho, violins, David Samuel, viola, Adrian Fung, cello

This all-Canadian quartet will present a program of Brahms, Mozart, Shostakovich and Zorn. From the full-bearded emotional sweep of the Brahms, to the sardonic and pointed vocabulary of Shostakovich, the playful genius of Mozart and the cartoonish glee of the Zorn, the Afiaras embark on a journey displaying their versatility insight and enthusiasm.

Sunday, February 10, 2008 4:00 PM - Feast for St. Valentine - San Francisco Renaissance Voices, and Scott Shubeck, lute

Journey to the Franco-Flemish Renaissance and join others in the gallery and jury for a trial in the Court of Love, resplendent with troubadour songs, airs de Coeur, and music for the lute. After the judge renders her verdict, celebrate this Feast for St. Valentine with the group’s performance of Orlando di Lasso’s Missa super Mon Coeur se recommende a vous, a parody mass.

 



*Sunday, March 2, 2008 4:00 PM - Jennifer Culp, cello, Betty Woo, piano

We are pleased to welcome back Ms. Culp, after several years with the Kronos Quartet, and Ms. Woo to our series. This outstanding duo will perform the Strauss Sonata in F major Op. 6 and the Rachmaninoff Sonata in g minor Op. 19, and they hope the ink will be dry on a new piece written especially for them.

*Sunday, April 27, 2008 4:00 PM - Adorno Ensemble - Traveling Polyhymnia

This eclectic group of young musicians journeys on a sacred path with sounds of the spirit from Buddhism to Azerbaijani culture. The program features a work by Daniel David Feinsmith, whose work merges sounds of Jewish mysticism with contemporary music, klezmer and jazz. A new work by composer Kurt Erickson, Faith, inspired by St. Francis of Assisi will also be presented, along with works by Zhou Long and Franghiz Ali-Zadeh.
